Entering service in 2010, the S-Stock trains serve the District, Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith & City lines of the London Underground network and comprised the largest single rolling-stock order in history, at a cost of £1.5 billion.

Owing to the sub-surface nature of the lines they serve, the S-Stock are larger than their counterparts on deep-level lines, boasting large open gangways, air conditioning and lower floors for accessibility.
